Spontaneous Partial Regression of Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation

چکیده
Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) of the brain is one of the important pathologic conditions which cause intracerebral or subarachnoid hemorrhage, epilepsy, or chronic cerebral ischemia. The spontaneous regression of cerebral AVM is reported to be very rare and more likely to occur when the AVM is small, is accompanied by hemorrhage, and has fewer arterial feeders. We report a case of right occipital AVM which at follow-up angiography performed four years later showed near-complete spontaneous regression.

Spontaneous Thrombosis in Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation after Minor Surgical Manipulation: a Case Report
The complete or partial spontaneous disappearance of a cerebral arteriovenous malformation is rare. Spontaneous thrombosis in large arteriovenous malformations has been reported in only two cases. We report the case of a large arteriovenous malformation in a 17-year-old man, that thrombosed spontaneously after minor surgical manipulation and review the literature and some possible mechanisms fo...

A 55 year-old man started with headaches in 2005. He underwent MRI that showed left frontal arteriovenous malformations (AVM) without evidence of hemorrhage. An arteriography revealed AVM supplied by the left anterior cerebral artery (Figures 1A and 1B). In 2010 the patient had an episode of cerebral hemorrhage confirmed with CT and MRI (Figures 2A, 2B and 2C). Referred to our service for treat...
متن کاملSpontaneous regression of cerebral arteriovenous malformation in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia.
Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are associated with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). I report a case of a patient with HHT with four cerebral AVMs in whom one AVM spontaneously regressed during a 5-year period. The spontaneous regression of this AVM in this patient with HHT supports the theory that AVMs associated with this syndrome have a different natural history than ...
متن کاملRendering a ruptured arteriovenous malformation more susceptible to spontaneous obliteration as a possible treatment strategy for cerebral AVM
Spontaneous regression of cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a rare phenomenon, but its occurrence is an important consideration in treatment planning. A 58-year-old male was found to have a high-flow AVM of Spetzler-Martin Grade III. Before his scheduled treatment, the AVM ruptured with a large parenchymal hemorrhage. Following emergency decompressive surgery, a targeted embolization...
متن کاملLong term effects of Gamma knife Radiosurgery for treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformations
Abstract Background: The Gamma Knife Radiosurgery (GKR) is an established management option for Cerebral Ar-teriovenous Malformations (AVMS). Therapeutic benefits of radiosurgery for arteriovenous malformations are complete obliteration of nidus with minimal neurological deficit. Methods: Radiosurgery was performed between February 2003 and April 2010 at Kamraniye day clinic, Teh-ran, Iran, us...
